We are pleased to announce the launch of the new project led by Jeunesses Med / Med Youth and the Réseau Euromed France (REF) in close collaboration with Mana Chuma Teatro: Mob in Med!
Mob in Med! is a project that brings together 22 Euro-Mediterranean young people to build an awareness and advocacy campaign on the obstacles to youth mobility in the Mediterranean.
This project stems from the recognition of the numerous obstacles to mobility that young people encounter during the regional activities organized by the REF. Every year, organizing the Jeunesses Med / Med Youth meetings turns out to be a real journey full of obstacles, various difficulties and challenges. During the last meeting organised in collaboration with Mana Chuma Teatro in Reggio Calabria, a young Turkish woman, two Syrians, three Lebanese, and three Tunisians have not managed to reach Reggio Calabria because they were unable to obtain their visas. Moreover, two participants from Gaza could not attend the meeting due to the conflict situation in the Middle East.
It is precisely this observation that has pushed the REF, Jeunesses Med, and Mana Chuma Teatro to feel the urge to illustrate, through this campaign, what it means to travel as a young person in the Mediterranean. We aim to shed light on the state of youth mobility in the Mediterranean, highlight the obstacles young people face, but also emphasize the positive aspects of mobility for young people in the region.
For this reason, Mob in Med! has been conceived as a project built by and for young people. A group of 22 young people, aged between 18 and 35, was selected following a call for applications. This group consists of 16 young people from 4 European countries (France, Italy, Malta, Greece) and 6 young people from 6 countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Jordan, Palestine) actively engaged in the civil society of their countries. These young people will be involved at every stage of the campaign’s development.
The group of 22 young people will take part in a series of workshops that will include:
• An online Kickoff Meeting – held on 2 December
• An editorial workshop to define the campaign’s editorial line (online) – 22 January 2025
• An advocacy workshop (online) – February 2025
• A communication and dissemination workshop (online) – March 2025
• A 3-day in-person workshop in Reggio Calabria – May 2025
The final goal of this awareness and advocacy campaign will be the creation of a graphic and informative booklet that, through illustrations, will retrace the testimonies and journeys of Euro-Mediterranean young people regarding the obstacles to mobility they are faced with in the region. Four territorial-focused videos produced by the young participants will also be produced.
