Mob in Med!

After more than a year of exchanges, the Mob in Med! project, led by the Réseau Euromed France and Jeunesses Med in close collaboration with Mana Chuma Teatro, has come to an end. But this is not an ending—it is the starting point for a youth-led awareness campaign advocating for fairer and freer mobility across the Mediterranean.

We are pleased to share with you the project’s outputs so that you can use, disseminate, or draw on them as advocacy tools. We invite you to join our campaign!

About the campaign:
Co-constructed by 22 young people from 9 countries, the campaign “Mob In Med: make your voice heard on the obstacles to youth mobility in the Mediterranean” aims to amplify the voices and aspirations of Mediterranean youth for more equitable mobility. It asserts that mobility is a deeply political issue, far from prejudices and colonial imaginaries.

The campaign seeks to:

  • Bring forward narratives rooted in lived experiences
  • Challenge stereotypes about Mediterranean youth
  • Highlight inequalities in access to mobility
  • Affirm mobility as a right, not a privilege

Concrete advocacy tools:

Illustrated booklet of testimonies
This booklet brings together the testimonies of nine young people who faced obstacles to mobility when attempting to attend the Jeunesses Med meeting in Reggio Calabria in 2024.
While their situations differ—from administrative barriers to realities of war or occupation—they reveal a shared reality: obstacles to mobility, whether visible or invisible, deeply shape young people’s life paths and relations between peoples.
They also point to a worrying context marked by a decline in fundamental rights and a rise in authoritarianism, where freedom of movement appears more than ever as a key indicator of the health of our societies.

Video capsules
Alongside the booklet, four participants produced short videos in the form of “territorial zooms” (Palestine, Lebanon, Calabria, Seine-Saint-Denis), highlighting concrete barriers to mobility in their local contexts. From everyday constraints to realities linked to conflict, borders, or colonization, these testimonies reveal very diverse situations. Despite these differences, they show that such barriers are rooted in broader political and socio-economic dynamics.
These situated perspectives thus illustrate a shared reality: mobility remains a deeply unequal right.
