Every year, the Executive Council of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), in partnership with the Dance Committee of ITI and World Dance Alliance, choses an outstanding dance personality to write the message for International Dance Day, which is celebrated since 1982 on 29 April, all over the world. This day is intended to mark the great significance of “dance” as an art form. The celebration also acts as a wake-up-call for governments, politicians and institutions, which have not yet recognised its value and have not yet realised its potential for economic growth.
The 2021 message was written by the ballet dancer Friedemann VOGEL, Germany.
“Everything starts with movement – an instinct we all have – and dance is movement refined to communicate. (…) It is ultimately what the dancer expresses inside the movement that is the essence.”
