“Romarin et autres caprices”, Algiers

Translated into French by the Paris based poet and translator Elizabeth Grech, the poetry collection Romarin et autres caprices by Adrian Grima was recently published by Apic Editions (Algiers, Algeria) in its series Poèmes du monde (Poems of the World).

This bilingual edition Romarin et autres caprices includes the French version of the original Maltese poetry book entitled Klin u Kapriċċi Oħra. The translations were supported by the Translation Grant when it was still administered by Arts Council Malta.

Elizabeth Grech also prefaced the poetry collection where she stresses the fact that “Translation is a creative act in its own right. (…) It is a complex challenge consistings in continually making choices, not only of words but also of colours, smells, sounds, of the consistency that we choose to give to a poem translated from one language to another, from one culture to another, from one world to another.”
